Ask children what they want to be when they grow up, and one of the careers you’ll often hear is an airline pilot. To achieve it is another story. The hurdle for most people is the cost of obtaining a commercial pilot’s licence. That’s many thousands of dollars, and not the kind of money most of us have readily available. Some airlines offer a sponsorship scheme, whereby they fund all the costs involved and usually offer you a job at the end.
