OAG has released data showing the effect of July’s CrowdStrike IT outage on flight cancellations. The world’s 20 largest airlines cancelled a total of 9,650 flights between Friday 19 July and Sunday 21 July.
However, the cancellations were by no means evenly spread across the carriers – Delta Air Lines was by far the worst affected, cancelling 4,675 flights in three days, followed by fellow US airlines United (1,706 cancellations), AA (860) and Spirit (550).
Of the European carriers EasyJet saw 469 cancellations, followed by Lufthansa (281), Ryanair (271) and British Airways (131).
By comparison, OAG’s data does not show a single cancellation for Emirates over the three days, while US carrier Southwest cancelled just 20 flights.…
