BACKGROUND The JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong stands tall above Pacific Place mall, along with two other hotel towers, in the city's Admiralty district. This sits between the Central prime business district and Wan Chai, known for its bars and restaurants (though, like Admiralty itself, Wan Chai is also home to numerous office towers). The hotel opened in 1989, just after Pacific Place opened its impressive glass doors to shoppers. It is something of a Hong Kong institution, popular with the Sunday brunch crowd and the local business community, who use its many restaurants for a quick breakfast or lunch during a packed day.
