Prefabricated construction, beginning in Europe after World War II, has been commonplace in many parts of the world for decades. But it is only now catching on in India. Building, not brick by brick, but by joining parts that have already been cast – much the way cars are assembled at automobile factories – comprises so far merely 1 per cent or so of India’s $100-billion real estate market.
