Sussex based charity RISE, which provides critical support to those affected by domestic abuse and violence in the area, has lost a significant portion of its council funding. The contract, worth £5 million over seven years, has been awarded elsewhere, and has been lost at a crucial time in which many victims of abuse find themselves at heightened risk due to lockdown.
RISE, standing for Refuge, Information, Support and Education, offers help to victims across the spectrum of need, from advice to refuge accommodation for women and children escaping abuse. RISE provides the only local domestic abuse helpline, available Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm, as well as face to face weekly drop-ins, support with criminal and civil proceedings and counselling. RISE also provides one of the only dedicated LGBTQ+ support services.…
