If there is one bird that most hardcore British birders would want to happen across, it would have to be the mystical Siberian Rubythroat, even if it was just once in our lives. We hold this romantic vision of finding this and other hallowed ‘Sibes’ in a random bush along a coastal Yorkshire path, or more usually, in some windswept place on Shetland. It is the stuff of ornithological dreams; a twitcher's ultimate fantasy, if you will. Incidentally, Sibes is the collective name for any passerine that originates from what we often imagine as a desolate frosty part of the world – Siberia.
