The site has stunning lakes and reedbeds as well as scrub, woodland and meadows. A former, and current, gravel extraction site, Paxton Pits is best known for its Nightingales, plus Cormorants, wintering wildfowl and summer passerines. Dusk here provides an excellent spectacle of roosting birds including hundreds of Cormorants, Rooks, Carrion Crows and doves. The area is also fantastic for large groups of wildfowl such as Goldeneye, Pochard, Gadwall and Teal in winter.
