Where to birdwatch in Sheffield

Try these sites within 30 minutes of the city centre by foot or public transport, as recommended by local birders. Five Weirs Walk (10-minute walk to the route start at Lady’s Bridge) follows the River Don eight kilometres to the north east. Look out for Kingfishers and Goosanders, as well as unusual gulls in mixed flocks roosting on warehouse roofs. Sheffield General Cemetery (10 minutes by bus) is Victorian cemetery and Local Nature Reserve. Like all the best urban cemeteries, it has a good mix of meadow and woodland. There’s all year-round interest with urban woodland birds plus winter thrushes and summer warblers. Dipper and Grey Wagtail can be found on the brook.
