Toot-toot! It’s gravel crushing hard-man Tiesj Benoot! At 24, young Tiesj is fast maturing into a fearsome Classics rider. So far, his Palmarès might only include one big win, but he’s consistently finished within the top 10 at many of the early season Classics. Last year proved his break-out, with a stonking win at the Strade Bianche. Taking place on Tuscany’s unpaved white roads, rains drenched the 2018 edition. Still, Benoot was able to navigate the tricky terrain and conditions, dropping Romain Bardet and Wout van Aert to take the win. Sporting shorts, bare arms, and riding gloveless throughout, a mud-spattered Benoot soloing to the line became one of the standout images of the season.
