There is more than one way to skin a cat. Three, in this case. Given that all three of our test bikes have near-identical groupsets, the decision is made slightly easier for us. The most effective bike here for smoothing the ride over rotten roads, from cracked tarmac to full-on cobbles, is the Specialized Roubaix Sport. While we’re keen to applaud new tech, we wouldn’t if it simply didn’t work, or got in the way of enjoyment. But on the Roubaix, while you’re aware of the Future Shock doing its thing, its effect doesn’t rob the bike of excitement; it merely increases the mileage you can crack out in comfort. It’s worth the extra £250 over the Trek. Just. The Domane SL5 is a ridiculously close second place. Clever tech…
