Etymology talks turkey: going backwards to the origin of a word will lead to its meaning. But sometimes trends bring the same expression to other shades. For example, in Italy people say “mettere il broncio” for the English “to be sulky” which derives from the French verb “bouder”, origin of the most famous “boudoir": in the mid of 1700s this room was used to withdraw and consume the bad humour in solitude. But du-ring the 1800s these places started becoming those that Michel Foucault called of the “extreme sexual saturation”: domestic feminine realms used for the sensual union of pleasure and power.
