FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS, kitchen refrigerator juggernaut Sub-Zero has grown into an icon of design. Clever tinkering by founder Westye Bakke led to the initial prototype – a freestanding freezer produced in his US basement from scrap metal and hand-bent coils, which was designed as a place to store his son’s diabetes medications. He officially launched Sub-Zero as a company in 1945, named for the perfect temperature required to preserve food. Fast-forward to 2021 and the Australian arm of Sub-Zero – which now includes Wolf cooking appliances – needed the perfect location for its new Sydney showroom.
