When Shakespeare came to contemplate the time and tides of human existence, he had Jaques in As You Like It speak of a man’s life split into seven distinct ages: infant, schoolboy, lover, soldier, justice, pantaloon and old age. The Universe itself is no different. Its tumultuous history can be also be broken down into eras. It is a story that starts with a fiery childhood, followed by the growing pains of adolescence and the wild abandon of a mid-life crisis.
