What’s it like to drive?
I DIDN’T DRIVE the new Smart Fortwo far, and every yard of my route was inside the grounds of the company’s Stuttgart HQ, but I still had plenty of time to discover the extra control and stability conferred on the latest model by its suite of suspension refinements and an extra 100mm of track width. The latest changes mean the Fortwo’s turning circle is now even smaller than that of the record-breaking Toyota iQ, a significant advantage in cities. The clutch and five-speed manual shift — a layout unavailable in previous models — were light and simple to use, and there’s now plenty of room for your left foot.
