Honda opens the door to an electrified Civic Type R
“ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE” for the future of the Honda Civic Type R, according to Ko Yamamoto, technical advisor for Honda Motor Europe. Honda has just revealed the new-generation hot hatchback, which gets a heavily modified version of the previous ‘FK8’ car’s platform and 2.0-litre turbo petrol four-pot engine. “I wouldn’t exclude electrification,” said Yamamoto. “We can’t do an electric powertrain on this platform, but I imagine it can take up to a certain level of plug-in hybrid.” He didn’t confirm if future Civic Type Rs will retain this platform, but the model has typically had a short shelf life of only two or three years.
