A lively crowd gathered at Byeokcheon Square to celebrate the opening day of the 5th Anyang Public Art Project (APAP 5) in October 2016. Taking center stage were local participants assembled by Eunji Cho, including young students and transportation workers, who danced to the beats of the Ta Harang drum group’s traditional performance. The cheery performance paid tribute to the diversity of the history and close-knit community of Anyang, a satellite city of Seoul. Steered by artistic director Eungie Joo, APAP 5 featured newly commissioned, imaginative works by 20 artists and collectives who directly engaged with Anyang’s natural landscape and long-standing histories.
