NEW YORK Two scenarios collide in an unsettling image of white, middle-class America: in one, a pair of actors spout off-the-cuff yet passive-aggressive “marital anecdotes” to a counselor, while the other features the same duo in a tense reading of the noir flick The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981). These two scenes make up the short film Roleplay (2016), a work by Chinese artist Tuo Wang, who graduated with painting degrees from Boston University’s School of Visual Arts and Beijing’s Tsinghua University and has a background in biology.
