Sheung Wan Civic Centre ARIADNE’S THREAD In the video-art exhibition “Techstyle Series 1.0: Ariadne’s Thread,” the mythological allusion to the Greek goddess of the labyrinth extended beyond its reference to women in textiles. Through the lens of technology, nine female artists wove varied narratives of gendered realities in transformation. Organized by nonprofits institution Mill6 Foundation and held at the offsite location of Sheung Wan Civic Centre, the show opened with Dara Birnbaum’s Technology/Transformation: Wonder Woman (1978–79), which featured re-edited footage of the buxom titular character, spinning repeatedly to assume superhero form. As she whirls, Wonder Woman’s clothing is reduced to the iconic red-white-and-blue leotard, prompting us to consider whether her powers derive from her revealing costume.
