Asia Society Museum NO LIMITS “No Limits” was the first retrospective of Zao Wou-Ki (1921–2013) to take place in the United States. It was therefore remarkable in both curatorial restraint and ambition. Held at New York’s Asia Society Museum, in partnership with the Colby College Museum of Art in Maine, it brought together a concise selection of paintings, prints and drawings from collections across three continents. The title of the exhibition, “No Limits,” was derived from the English translation of the artist’s name, Wou-Ki, as well as from Zao’s career-long practice of seeking inspiration beyond national borders.
