Attenborough Arts Centre PARACOSM Faiza Butt is an artist with all the accoutrements of a settled life who remains in search of belonging. Butt has continually responded to the displacement caused by faraway wars and the ongoing search for safe havens. For her, the clarion call to state one’s belonging rings louder than ever. “Paracosm,” the artist’s recent show at Attenborough Arts Centre, beautifully staged her recurring concerns through a series of works that included digital imaging, light-boxes, an impressive ceramic installation and her traditional drawing techniques. After training in the quiet art of imperial Mughal miniature painting during Pakistan’s state-sponsored Islamic era, Butt arrived in London in the late 1990s full of hope for the presumed freedoms of the West.
