Faig Ahmed, one of the best-known contemporary artists in Azerbaijan, has gained international acclaim for his take on the traditional Azerbaijani carpet as a metaphor for the tension between tradition and modernity. His most recognizable artworks are conceived as handwoven carpets that meld traditional motifs with pixilation and eye-bending designs, which often extend beyond their boundaries or are cast as sculptural forms.
