Oldest helmet ever found in Poland discovered

Archaeologists in northern Poland have unearthed what is believed to be the oldest helmet ever discovered in the country. Poland’s National Museum of Archaeology (PMA) announced the find near Chorzele, describing it as a major discovery for both Poland and Central Europe. The helmet was among around 300 artefacts uncovered by a team from PMA and the University of Warsaw’s archaeology department. Initially, the excavators did not recognize the object as a helmet. “We thought it might be an ancient vessel, as bronze vessels are more common in Poland than helmets,” said Bartłomiej Kaczyński of PMA.
